Welcome to our first PK3 class blog. Each week you will be able to see our Week at a Glance which will share what we are learning for the week. There will also be a special blog that shares something we learning, special events, or some fun in our classroom from the previous week.
What is PK3 learning this week:
Religion: This week we will begin Unit 1: God Made People. We will be focusing on Chapter 1: God Made Me. We will discuss why God made people and how we are all different and special. How are we different? What are things we can do that make us special? We will know that God loves us and he made us all special.
Everyday Math: This week we will focus on our verbal counting skills. We will use movements and games to help us practice counting out loud.
Jolly Phonics: Each week we will focus on one letter. This week our letter of the week is Ss. We will be able to identify letter Ss, learn the sound and motion, and a chant to help us remember the sound for letter Ss. We will also complete various activities that will help us with letter recognition, and letter formation.
This is the chant for letter Ss:
The snake is in the grass,
the snake is in the grass,
/s/ /s/ /s/
the snake is in the grass.
At home ask your child what the letter of the week is and its sound. Ask your child to share the chant with you and the motion.
Second Step/Mindfulness: SecondStep/Mindfulness is used in the classroom to help your child develop social emotionally. This week we will be focusing on the skill of Listening. We will review the Listening Rules which include eyes watching, ears listening, voices off, bodies calm. We will practice this skill most when we are on the carpet during lessons and sharing time.
Reader’s Workshop: This week we are learning about how to be a leader in the library by treating our books with care, turning pages slowly, and taking our time to read. We place our books back on the shelf slowly and gently.
Writer’s Workshop: We will be focusing on our drawing skills. We will practice drawing ourselves with details such as making sure we include a head, a body, legs and arms. Then we will add eyes, ears, nose, hair etc. We will create our first self portrait.
Science/Service Learning Project: We will be learning about our 5 senses and what part of our body we use for each sense, and what each sense helps us do.
Leader in Me: This week we will be discussing what a habit is? There are good habits and bad habits. What are good habits to have at school that will help us be the best leaders at school? We will work together to create a class mission statement and each child will create their individual mission statement as well.
