What is PK3 learning this week?
Religion: This week we will continue Unit 1: God Made People. We will be focusing on Chapter 3: God Made My Helpers. We will be learning about all kinds of helpers that help us around our community, at school and at church. We are thankful for our helpers because they are kind and help us each day.
Everyday Math: This week we are working on counting up to 10. We will use the story Ten Black Dots to create our own representational drawings using dots such as lady bugs, people, cars, and trains. We will also read the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar and create our own caterpillars by counting out up to 10 circles.
Jolly Phonics: This week our letter of the week is Ii. We will be able to identify letter Ii, learn the sound and motion, and a chant to help us remember the sound for letter Ii. We will also complete various activities that will help us with letter recognition, and letter formation.
This is the chant for letter Ii:
Inky the mouse is my pet,
he spilled the ink and got wet,
/i/ /i/ /i/,
The motion for Ii is pretending to be a mouse and wriggling fingers by cheeks like whiskers while saying Ii sound.
At home ask your child what the letter of the week is, its sound and motion. Ask your child to share the chant with you as well.
Second Step/Mindfulness: This week we will be focusing on Following Directions. We will talk about how following directions help you learn. When we all listen and follow directions we get the most out of learning. We will practice and reinforce staying on task and following directions.
Reader’s Workshop: This week we are learning about why reader’s read? We read because it makes us happy, we want to learn something new or more about something we already know, we read to spend time with special people etc. We will share why we like to read with our friends.
Writer’s Workshop: This week we will be focusing on who an author is and their role in creating books. We will be reading books by the author Eric Carle and we will become author just like him by adding our own pages to his books Panda Bear, Panda Bear what do you see? and Polar Bear, Polar Bear what do you Hear?
