I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful fall weather this weekend!

This Week in Kindergarten:

*Reading- As a Leader in Me school, we have a learn, lead and love goal which we set each school year. This year our Learn Goal in kindergarten is to read 100 books this school year. In order for each student to track their progress, please remember to fill out your child’s reading log every night. The students are learning many different reading strategies. Ask your child which strategies they learned in reading.

*Writing- Last week we finished unit 1 in our writer’s workshop. On Monday, we will start our next unit, Show and Tell. I hope the kids are excited as I am about it. The students brought home some of their samples from unit 1 over the weekend.

*Phonics-The students continue to add to their snap word list: I, the, my, like and me. Please continue to work on letter recognition and sounds if your child has not mastered this skill.

*Handwriting- The students continue to work on their handwriting daily. This week we will continue to focus on spacing our words while writing. We are also working on using capital and lowercase letters when appropriate.

*Math- We do daily reviews of counting by 1’s, 5’s and 10’s. We are also working on addition. This week we will finish chapter 2 and move onto chapter 3.

*Science- Our theme will be bats and spiders. The students will learn many facts about both bats and spiders.

*Religion- This week’s theme will be Prayer is Good.

*Homework- Please continue to work on your nightly homework. Also students each have individual work of either working on letters and sounds or reviewing sight words.
