I apologize for not updating our blog during the month of October. Instead of going back and a week by week review, I am summing up our activities in this post.

Everyday Math: We learned to sort objects by length (smallest to largest) and we worked on identifying and extending AB patterns using pumpkins and leaves. We also reviewed counting and filling 5 frames.

Religion: We learned how to pray using our whole bodies (kneeling, bowing head) and we looked at the Bible and learned how to treat is with kindness and respect.

Leader in Me: We reviewed Habit 1: Be Proactive. We learned about Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind. We thought about how making a plan helps us to achieve our goals. We drew pictures about what we want to be when we grow up.

Handwriting Without Tears & Jolly Phonics:  We practiced writing the letters S, A, T, I, and P. We practiced uppercase using our handwriting workbooks and lowercase using our Jolly Phonics worksheets. We can say the sound each letter makes and learned a short rhyme with each letter.

Reader’s Workshop: We are becoming readers by making predictions about stories we are reading. We looked at clues about the stories from the covers and the titles. We ended by taking a picture walk through the story before reading it to make predictions.

Writer’s Workshop: During Writer’s Workshop, we work on drawing pictures that relate to a question, story, or theme. We focus on including details and colors into our pictures.

Second Step:  We learned about feelings in October. We practiced identifying how a person is feeling by looking at their face and paying attention to what is happening. We also learned that it is okay for people to have different feelings about the same thing.

Science: We explored a pumpkin and examined the inside of it as well. We also dabbled a little into mixing colors.

Social Studies: We continued to discuss community helpers and our service learning project. Don’t forget to donate new pajamas for our pajama drive!
